First Ever CSR Meeting Held at IT Ukraine
IT Ukraine held its first meeting dedicated to corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the IT industry. The event brought together over 30 participants, including representatives from IT, FinTech, Retail and NGOs. The attendees analyzed successful CSR cases already implemented in IT companies, such as Daxx, EPAM Ukraine and Luxoft Ukraine. They also had the opportunity to join new initiatives, including the Plant your tree initiative as well as an educational project for teenage girls.
”We are pleased to witness that IT Ukraine brings together responsible IT companies. While they’re dedicated to moving the industry forward, these companies are also concerned about education, environment and other areas crucial for each society. Many of you have joined the Association’s educational project, Join_IT, which has already enrolled 40,000+ students. Today, we’re launching a new ecological initiative, Plant your tree,” said Victoria Tymoshenko, who runs educational projects at IT Ukraine.
Yuriy Zhukov, who already joined the Plant your tree project, said:
“Since the dawn of human civilization, we have destroyed nearly half of forest areas. This is not about numbers, this affects all of us. After all, forests provide up to a third of all the oxygen we need for life. That means we need to act now! The Plant your tree project invites everyone who cares to get involved in restoring protected areas. The choice of territory, procurement of seedlings and other organizational aspects are on us, and the rest is the joint effort of everyone who wants to join. It only takes a few steps to start a great thing.”
Yulia Sporysh, who represents an educational project for teenage girls, raised the discussion about stereotypes around the place of women in the IT industry, which stirred a lively response from the audience.
Some of the speakers shared successful cases of implementing CSR, corporate citizenship and volunteering in their IT companies:
- Aziza Hamidova, Head of CSR Unit at EPAM Ukraine;
- Kateryna Andruschenko, Employer Brand Manager at Daxx;
- Tatiana Laduba from Luxoft Ukraine.
Each participant received saplings of weigela which were a gift and symbolic presentation from IT Ukraine. The best time to join a good cause is now.
