Questions and Answers related to Erlang Development
“Erlang is a functional language and accompanying runtime designed for highly parallel, scalable applications requiring high uptime. The original use case, and still the primary one, is to program Ericsson cellular data carrier nodes (hence “Er”-lang), which carry about 40% of global cell phone traffic. The original spec was “nine nines” uptime. Erlang does this with features such as a built-in worker-supervisor message-passing model and hot-swappable code..”
“I used to work with it at Ericsson (the company that invented Erlang) and contrary to what you may think, it isn’t widely used. It’s the usual politics of being worried that you won’t find enough developers who know it, that it’s strange, and that it’s relatively slow. Where we did use it was in the test environment for the LTE (4G) radio base station. We used Erlang to fake everything from other base stations (3G and 4G), UEs (User Equipment, basically phones), the core network nodes such as MME, and other services, like a DHCP server.”
“Whatsapp chose Erlang and they are running pretty good, don’t they? Messages get delivered on new years eve within no time. So why Erlang? Erlang’s error handling is different from Go’s. Erlang is designed to keep the application running under all circumstances. It’s easy to update an Erlang app on the fly without shutting things down. Erlang was designed having distributed systems in mind. It is possible to achieve the same level of with Go but it seems to me that by design Erlang is a better choice here.”
“I would suggest to go with Vue.js . Because not only it can run standalone on your browser , it is also super easy to learn . The standalone can run and compile itself on the browser itself, so you don’t have to use WebPack or any other server , you can directly write Vue Code on the browser itself . Secondly you can React . But it is more powerful . You must build some sort of API or JSON end point via a rest framework or something like that so that react can grab data and make it real time . But I would still suggest Vue.Js.”
