Questions and Answers related to Delphi Development
“Delphi is a product, the language is called Object Pascal. And the reasons are fairly simple, Delphi (Or Lazarus FreePascal if you like free) are the quickest way to develop desktop applications. Object Pascal is on par with C/C++ except more fun to work with, and less of a headache, so it’s useful for servers, desktop applications, tools, etc. I use Lazarus/FreePascal to write scalable REST APIs for the web, as well as several desktop applications and more…”
“Pascal (not just Delphi) uses:= as an assignment operator to distinguish it from the = used as a comparison operator. Other languages use = for assignment and == or === for comparison. Still other languages only use = for both assignment and comparison and just figure out which is meant from context.”
“I worked on a Delphi team that wrote a client/server application that ran on militarized laptops and tiny paperback-novel sized Windows computers. The little computers were carried by Hazmat workers into hot-zones in lunchbox-sized chemical-proof containers or strapped to their air tank inside their “space suit”. The computers gathered data from (industrial) poison/explosive gas, military nerve gas, GPS coordinates, inertial navigation information and and several types of nuclear radiation. The app also sent text and graphics to a heads-up display inside the Hazmat suit…”
“Delphi method is a qualitative forecasting method. It relies on a panel of experts and a facilitator. A panel of experts is anonymous to each other. It is an iterative process. Each expert is given a set of questions to be answered and the reason for their answers. After each round of questions, a facilitator will summarize the response from all the experts and circulate it to all the experts. Anonymity is still intact. Again same questions are asked. However, experts might change their response based on the summary because they will not have the perspective from other experts too…”
